Tricity on four wheels - Sopot

Sopot is a true pearl of the Tricity. It tempts tourists primarily with its elegance, beautiful beaches, and unique atmosphere. However, planning to explore it by car presents a significant challenge – especially during the summer season! The problem is the limited number of parking spaces and high parking prices. An additional problem are the new rules for entering the city center, which can effectively discourage driving around it. But don't worry! Our team at EasyCar Rental has prepared a complete, strategic guide for you! We will show you how to navigate Sopot by car, where to park, and what to see to make your trip a pure pleasure :)

Parking in Sopot – our guide for drivers

We must pay special attention to the parking system. Especially since significant changes came into effect on June 1, 2025! Good planning of your parking will save not only money but, above all, time and nerves.

Paid Parking Zone (SPP) – what you need to know?

Most streets in the city center and along the seaside are included in the Paid Parking Zone. Fees are charged from Monday to Friday between 9:00 AM and 10:00 PM. Remember that from June 1, 2025, the seasonal sub-zones A1 (Winieckiego St.) and C1 (Forest Opera) are incorporated into the year-round zones.

Our tip: On Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, parking in the Sopot SPP is completely free! This is great news when planning a weekend getaway :)

  • New rates in the SPP (effective from June 1, 2025):

    • Minimum fee (up to 9 minutes): PLN 1.00
    • First hour: PLN 6.90
    • Second hour: PLN 8.20
    • Third hour: PLN 9.80
    • Fourth and each subsequent hour: PLN 6.90
  • Exemptions from fees: Electric vehicles and motorcycles are legally exempt from fees in the SPP.

  • Additional fee (fine): The penalty for not having a valid ticket is PLN 300 (reduced to PLN 200 if paid within 7 days).

How to pay for parking?

Payments can be made at parking meters (with coins, card, or BLIK), but the most convenient solution is, of course, mobile applications (the most well-known are AnyPark, moBilet, Skycash). They allow you to pay for the actual parking time thanks to the start-stop function and to extend your parking remotely without having to return to the car to "buy more" time.

Attention! New from July 1, 2025 – Limited Access Zone (SOD)

This is a really big change for all motorized tourists. Sopot is introducing a zone where entry will be strictly limited.

  • Where? The area covers the block of streets: Bema, Pułaskiego, Fiszera, and part of Sobieskiego Street.
  • When? The zone will be in effect seven days a week.
  • What does this mean for tourists? For most visitors, it means the necessity of leaving their car outside the strict city center. The right to enter will be mainly for residents, people with disabilities, taxis, and services.

Where to find free parking in Sopot? We present our 3 proven methods

Despite the restrictions, you can still park for free in Sopot. Our team at EasyCar Rental has tested the best ways to find free parking.

  1. EKO PARKING at Ergo Arena – in our opinion, this is the best option!
This is a large, 24/7, and completely free parking lot with 700 spaces, located on the border of Sopot and Gdańsk (Plac Dwóch Miast). During the summer season (June-August), electric carts run from here to the center (costing as little as PLN 4). The walk to the beach from here takes literally 10 minutes.
  2. Park on the outskirts and use public transport.
Leave your car in the more distant parts of the city and get to the center by the Fast Urban Railway (SKM) or bus. Where to look?
    • Around the SKM Sopot Wyścigi or SKM Kamienny Potok stations.
    • Streets on the border with Gdańsk (Żabianka district).
    • Streets like Bitwy pod Płowcami (approx. 15 min walk to the pier) or Reja (a quiet district, approx. 25 min walk).
  3. Searching on side streets (we honestly admit - this is an option only for the patient ;).
Early in the morning or late in the evening, you can try to find a free spot on streets slightly away from the center, e.g., Malczewskiego Street or near the Forest Stadium (Stadion Leśny).

What is worth seeing in Sopot? We present our ready-made plan for visiting the city of Sopot!

Once we have the parking logistics mastered, it's time for the pleasantries! We have prepared several sightseeing plans, tailored to different needs and the amount of time you have.

Plan for a first visit – the essence of Sopot in one day

If you have little time, in our opinion, it's best to focus on the biggest attractions that create the unique atmosphere of the resort. We suggest leaving your car in one of the parking lots and exploring this area simply... on foot!

  • A walk from "Monciak" to the end of the Pier: This is an absolute must for a "good start". Begin at the famous promenade (Bohaterów Monte Cassino Street), see the architectural gem – the Crooked House (Krzywy Domek), and then walk through the bustling Spa Square (Skwer Kuracyjny) straight to the Pier (Molo) – the longest wooden pier in Europe. We assure you - the views are worth the ticket price!
  • A view from above: Climb the Lighthouse, which is actually the tower of the former chimney of the Balneology Institute. The panorama of the Gdańsk Bay and the city from here is breathtaking!
  • A moment of breath in the greenery: After a walk among the crowds, relax in the North Park (Park Północny), which stretches along the beach. It's the perfect place to rest and eat a delicious ice cream :)

Sopot for families with children – a plan for an active day

Sopot offers plenty of attractions for the youngest visitors. Here, a car will be useful to easily reach places located a bit further from the center.

  • Water madness at the Aquapark: Regardless of the weather, Aquapark Sopot guarantees great fun. Slides, pools, and zones for toddlers will provide entertainment for many hours.
  • The best playgrounds: Be sure to visit the themed playground at the entrance to beach no. 15, with a wooden "sand factory" and a ship. Another great option is Sopockie Błonia – a huge recreational area with two playgrounds, a dog run, and a free mini-golf course!
  • An alternative for bad weather: Waiting for a train or the weather isn't cooperating? Visit Sopoteka in Sopot Centrum. It's a modern media library with a children's zone, building blocks, board games, and consoles for older kids.

For explorers – Sopot off the beaten path

Do you already know Sopot well or are you simply looking for less obvious places? Then let's hit the road - but be aware, a car will be essential here!

  • Historical gems: Visit the Sierakowski Manor House (Dworek Sierakowskich), the oldest building in the city, with a charming café and a playground. On Sunday, take advantage of free admission to the Museum of Sopot, located in a beautiful villa by the beach.
  • The green lungs of Sopot: Go to the Tricity Landscape Park (Trójmiejski Park Krajobrazowy). Numerous hiking and biking trails, viewpoints (Glinna Góra), and the famous Łysa Góra (a ski slope in winter) are a perfect proposition for active people.
  • To your health!: Stop by the Brine Water Pump Room (Pijalnia Wód Solankowych) in the Spa House. Here you can taste the healing brine water and, at the same time, have a coffee with a view of the pier.
